We believe that NGO’s are deeply rooted in the civil society. They are organizations of the people, by the people and for the people. NGO’s are places of self-realization for their members – they are important to many people’s sense of identity. NGO’s also play a crucial role in shaping and establishing a civil society’s values and preferences and so they turn ideals into deeds.
The NGO Market is an event aimed at non-governmental organizations operating in the spheres of education, volunteering, human resources development, human rights, environmental protection, youth involvement, promotion of multi-cultural and civil society, democracy development, political participation and other related areas. Nevertheless, the event is open to all NGOs regardless of their orientation.
The NGO Market has been growing in size and scope since 2000. Last year we hosted over eighty organizations not only from the Czech Republic but also from other European countries (Slovak Republic, Poland, Hungary) and Asia (Taiwan), many of them with an international outlook. This year we hope to gather the largest pool of organizations ever regarding both their number and range of interest.
The Students’ Forum 2000 has established the NGO Market because we believe that NGOs constitute one of the crucial elements within the development of a strong civil society and that they play a crucial role in the transformation processes in the Central and Eastern Europe. They develop links between education, information and the reform processes in the CEE countries (as well as in other countries around the world). They also help to facilitate the democratization process and promote academic and cultural relations. That is why they should be provided with more space and support in creating mutual links, partnerships, sharing experience and helping one another in their activities.
